For
people who do not have large garden areas and want the appeal
of growing citrus, why not grow them in pots? This is very
easy to do and they look marvellous in any garden setting.
Quite often, Citrus in pots are used as major focal points
in landscaped gardens, patios and courtyards.
POT SIZE
Firstly, you will need a reasonably large pot of at least
40cm wide. Citrus looks marvellous in terracotta pots.
PLANT VARIETY
Then select a suitable citrus plant such as cumquats, limes
and other small fruit trees. It is best to only choose varieties
that will not grow too large. Check with your local garden
centre for the best advise on small growing varieties for
your area.
POTTING MIX
For the best results, pot into Searles® Terracotta and Tub
mix. This mix is designed specially for outdoor pots and terracotta
pots.
POSITION
Citrus in pots require a full sun position. They will require
regular watering. Do not allow the soil to dry out.
FERTILISING
Now the trick to successful citrus in pots is in the feeding.
Citrus trees require large amounts of nutrients prior to flower
and fruiting. Apply fortnightly Searles Flourish® Soluble
Plant Food.
Regular maintenance of citrus trees will protect against pest
and disease attack. |
